SUMMARY:
Illegal book replicator, Dawnette Hillcrest, is guilty of murder.
Worse, she is accused of grimwitch lineage—black-eyed recluses who wield death. On the run from hunters sent to capture the dreadful woman said to kill with a glance, Dawnette flees her quiet village in search of Bane, an illicit city of pain and oddity burrowed beyond the expansive Westwoods. There, she hopes to uncover her true nature.
On her journey through the wooded wilds, Dawnette crosses paths with Linden Lancewood, an honor-bound knight on a mission of his own. With creatures stalking the shadows and hunters on their trail, he becomes a hard-edged guide, teaching her how to survive when the forest shows no mercy.
Driven to the edge of the realm, they have no choice but to throw their fate to the sea. Accepting passage aboard the plundering Red Swan, the ship’s callous captain, Cedar Reed, is determined to uncover Dawnette’s lies as she grapples with who, and what, she has become.
Horrors prowl the waves, unlikely bonds are tested, and honor clashes with heart as Dawnette is tangled in a web that will ripple throughout land and sea.
The noose of unseen enemies is tightening, and trust is just another weapon waiting to be turned against her.
